Transport of dangerous goods

Departments may occasionally need to move chemicals, biological materials or radioactive substances from one location to another in the course of work. Such materials will often be classed as dangerous goods. Movements of dangerous goods may often involve more than one mode of transport and the handling, packaging, labelling and transport of these materials is governed by a range of highly complex international and national mode-specific regulations based on the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods. All of these regulations specify packaging, labelling and documentation requirements, as well as provisions for training those involved in the process.

The policy statement outlines the requirements for the correct transport of dangerous goods.
