Calling the fire service

Most University buildings have a fire alarm system to give an early warning in case of fire and to notify Security Services. A check to ensure there is a real fire before calling out the fire and rescue service must be made, to avoid them having to respond to false alarms.

On discovering a fire, dial 999 to call out the fire and rescue service, which avoids the delay caused by this check.
